Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I need to do to get my glasses ordered?
All you need is your prescription and your pupillary distance (PD). Outside of any special circumstances, your doctor will readily give this to you upon request if you can't find it. It's the law in all 50 states.
About Your Prescription
Your prescription provides us with your doctor's recommendation for clear and comfortable vision. Please take a brief moment now to review your information with our 3 samples shown here. They represent 3 different ways of writing the same prescription:
Note, particularly:
• Your astigmatism correction ("cylinder"). Some doctors write their prescriptions in plus (+) cylinder and some in minus (-) cylinder. They are not the same. Take special note of this when entering your prescription later. If you don't see anything there, leave it blank.
• "dist" (distance) is often abbreviated "D.V."
• "near" (reading) is often abbreviated "N.V."
• For reading-only glasses: Some doctors will write the reading prescription separately, in its entirety (as "NEAR" or "N.V." or "N.V.O."), as in SAMPLE Rx #3. If this is the case, enter the power in the BOTTOM half of the form (you'll see; it's easy), and leave the ADD power blank ("0.00").
• If you do not understand ANY part of your prescription, please call us to ensure everything is entered correctly. Don't be shy; we are here to help, and we want your glasses to be made exactly to your doctor's specifications.
OD = Right Eye OS = Left Eye OU = Both Eyes

When will my glasses be shipped?
Orders generally take no longer than two business days to leave our laboratory from the day we receive the order (up to 4:30 pm E.S.T.). More customized orders, like custom-surfaced lenses, Transitions®, polarized lenses, and bifocals/progressives will add an additional day. Anti-reflective coating with a more customized order may take an additional two days. Mailing transit time varies based on shipping method and location.
What is your guarantee policy?
Prior to shipping, each pair of eyeglasses is inspected by a certified technician to ensure the accuracy of the prescription and proper alignment of the frame. Further, they are packaged in an attractive hard case for protection. In the unlikely event that your glasses arrive with a defect, we will replace them completely free of charge within 30 days of shipment.
In the unlikely event your new glasses need to be remade for reasons beyond our control (e.g. your doctor changes your prescription, you would like to select a different style, or if you accidentally enter incorrect prescription information), we will gladly do so for only 50% of the purchase price plus shipping and handling charges. We do this to ensure our ability to continue to provide all our customers high-quality and cost effective prescription glasses anywhere. Please contact our office for a Return Authorization Number within 30 days of the original shipping date if you need to have your glasses remade.
Can I get reimbursed from my insurance company or optical plan?
Check with your provider to see what their reimbursement policy is. If you need our Tax-ID Number (TIN) for this, let us know when you place your order and we'll be happy to provide it.
I only have a prescription for contact lenses. Can I use that?
While your contact lens and eyeglasses prescriptions may seem the same, they usually have some differences (even if they seem minor to you). We recommend you get your eyeglass prescription from your doctor. You should really have a copy of it anyway.
My PD was measured for me but there's more than one number. Now what?
If you have two different numbers you have either been given both the Distance/Reading or Right Eye/Left Eye. If the numbers are higher (and different), like to 62/59, then the first number is your Distance PD and the second is your Near PD (for reading-only glasses). If the two numbers are lower, like 30.5/31.5, then you had someone take your PD one eye at a time (called "monocular PD"). The first number is for the right eye (O.D.) and the second number is for the left eye (O.S.). If you have a monocular PD available, put it in the "Customer notes:" section of the order form and we'll use it.
My prescription doesn't have anything written for CYL or AXIS or ADD. What should I enter?
You can leave those fields blank. Cylinder and Axis are for astigmatism correction. If your doctor didn't write it in, you don't have to either. The Add power is for people (typically over 40) who now have different prescriptions for distance and near vision. Younger people don't have trouble up close with their distance prescription on, so their Add is technically zero; in actuality, it's just not written at all. If you don't have an add on your Rx, or if you want distance-only glasses, leave those fields blank.
Can I just order frames/lenses with no prescription in them?
Yes! You'll need to enter PLANO for the sphere (SPH) powers, so we don't think you "just forgot" to enter any prescription at all.
What are the index of refractions for your lenses?
CR39 Hard-Resin Sun Lenses = 1.49 Polycarbonate Lenses = 1.59 Super-High Index Lenses = 1.67
How do you ship my glasses or contacts?
We ship most orders by UPS and the US Postal Service. Should you need your glasses or contacts quickly, expedited delivery service is available in most areas for a small incremental charge.
